Malayalam star Nivin Pauly booked for alleged rape amidst the Hema Committee revelation
According to the officer, Nivin is the sixth accused and a woman is the first accused.
According to the police officials, Malayalam star Nivin Pauly was arrested on Tuesday for the crime of rape following a 40-year-old woman’s statement that he had molested her in Dubai more than a year prior.
Six people, one of whom is a woman, are named in the FIR filed under section 376 of the IPC, according to an officer of the Oonnukal police station.
The police stated that the incident happened in Dubai more than a year ago, according to the woman. Since the release of the Justice K Hema Committee report, numerous actors and directors have been subjected to accusations of sexual harassment or rape by female actors. Nivin Pauly is one of them.
Nivin reacts to the accusations
Nivin published a statement on Instagram, “I have come across a false news report accusing me of abusing a girl. Please know that this is entirely untrue. I am determined to go to any extent to prove these allegations are baseless and will take all necessary steps to bring those responsible to light. Thank you for your concern. The rest will be handled legally.”
He also mentioned his name and the specific date, September 3.
Further updates on the codified report details
The Kerala government established the committee in response to the 2017 actress assault case and its findings, which exposed instances of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry.
In response to accusations of sexual harassment and exploitation leveled against a number of performers and directors, the state administration declared on August 25 that a seven-person special inquiry team would be formed to look into the claims.
A modified copy of the Justice Hema Committee’s report on harassment includes startling tales of women professionals being harassed, exploited, and mistreated. The 235-page study, which was made public after the names of the accused and witnesses were withheld, states that roughly 10 to 15 men who are producers, directors, and actors govern and exercise control over the Malayalam film industry.
