L2 Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, was released in theaters on March 27 by director Prithviraj Sukumaran. In just nine days, the movie earned ₹241.65 crore globally, surpassing Manjummel Boys to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date, according to Sacnilk.
L2 Empuraan made ₹91.15 crore net and ₹106.65 crore gross in India during its nine-day run. It made ₹135 crore abroad, bringing its total revenue to ₹241.65 crore globally. With these figures, it surpassed the ₹238 crore lifetime total of Yash’s 2018 Kannada film KGF Chapter 1.
For comparison, Manjummel Boys was the highest-grossing Malayalam movie at one point, earning ₹240 crore over its career. However, L2 Empuraan became the first Malayalam movie to earn ₹100 crore globally.
Therefore, L2 Empuraan’s 9-day collection of ₹241.65 crore is not only remarkable, but it also indicates that there is room for it to set new milestones. However, there is still a long way to go because the highest-grossing Tamil film, 2.0, has made ₹723.30 crore, while Kannada and Telugu have made over ₹1000 crore with KGF Chapter 2, Baahubali 2, Pushpa 2, RRR, and Kalki 2898 AD.
