Months of training and raw cinematography, Chakda ‘Xpress’ release continue to be on hold

Post the split of Netflix and Clean Slate Filmz, the release seems uncertain.

Anushka Sharma is set to make her much awaited comeback with Chakda ‘Xpress, a biography based on cricket legend Jhulan Goswami. However the release seems to be a unspoken fact. It was initially touted to be released on October 2023  on Netflix in association with Clean Slate Filmz, however was postponed with no estimated time period.

Directed by Prosit Roy and written by Abhishek Banerjee, the film aimed to bring the newness in sports biopic genre. The film has almost done with the filming and despite the announced collaboration between Clean Slate Filmz and Netflix the release date is yet to be declared.

Earlier, the filming was supposed to commence on April 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Anushka’s pregnancy, a producer quitting, and Roy’s tight schedule in Paatal Lok.

Netflix at last arrived with a three-act framework, to safeguard the film’s unique storytelling. Anushka Sharma meanwhile shed seven months of sweat post her maternity break involving tough training to prepare for the character.

Cinematographer Pratik Shah initiated the use of a hand-held camera to capture the raw and intense shots for better, real experience. It also used meta elements, wherein Jhulan Goswami shatters the fourth wall to exemplify her journey amidst the odds.

Even though Netflix posted a teaser of Chakda ’Xpress, it did not project the ultimate excerpt of the film, rather appeared as a narrative.

Editor Manas Mittal stated that the film was shot in dedicated span at stadiums in India and the UK over 62 days, however due to external issues, the release has been consistently delayed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chakda ’Xpress was almost finished after the being shelved except couple of VFX shots.
