Will Michael Keaton return as Batman? Here’s what he said

For fans of DC Comics, Michael Keaton repeating his role as Batman might be a dream come true. Although the 72-year-old hasn’t fully ruled out the possibility, the actor isn’t all that excited about dressing up as a superhero once again.

During his most recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Michael Keaton told host Josh Horowitz that his potential comeback as Batman is entirely dependent on the circumstances. Tim Burton directed Keaton’s first feature, Batman, in 1989, which was followed by Batman Returns in 1992. His most recent appearance was in the 2023 film The Flash, directed by Andrés Muschietti.

Michael Keaton responded diplomatically when Josh Horowitz asked if he was done portraying Batman. He said, “I don’t think about it much. Never say never. I don’t think – everything’s dependent upon something else, I guess.” Despite the fact that Keaton’s statements do not officially confirm his return to a forthcoming Batman movie, he might still play Bruce Wayne (Batman) in future.

The actor also talked about the cancellation of the superhero movie Batgirl in the same podcast. Warner Bros. opted to drop the film, which was about to be released. According to Entertainment Weekly, DC co-chair Peter Safran backed the decision, arguing that the Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi-directed film “would have hurt DC” if it had been released. Speaking with the host, Keaton, who played the important role of Batman in the unreleased movie, claimed that he only watched Batgirl in parts. “No. I saw parts of it, but it was a done deal,” he said.
