Netizens call IVE member Gaeul’s new transformation ‘cringe’

Gaeul, an IVE member, has gained a lot of attention in internet forums after some users labeled her current concept as “cringe.”
Even when they’re not filming for a music video, it’s common for K-Pop idol groups to adopt various characters and basically roleplay accordingly.
“Gaeul sunbae,” one of Gaeul’s most well-known nicknames in Korea, perfectly captures her persona. In addition to being the oldest member of IVE, she was given this name because of her stylish and collected personality. However, many online feel that this picture is not really fitting for the idol.
In a recent post that went popular on Nate Pann, the original poster (OP) posed the following question in the title: “Why is Gaeul this cringe?” The post claimed that the idol had a corny attitude, which only made her stuff more addicting, and it featured a screenshot from her most recent dance video.
The OP wrote, “Even the last time when she did the “New Things” challenge, she looked so pretty and danced well. But there was something cringey about it as well. This reel, too, was cringe but also strangely addictive. So I keep watching it every time it comes up, LOL.”
Majority of netizens appear to AGREE with the original poster’s evaluation, believing that Gaeul’s personality was not a good fit for this seductive, femme BOLD idea.
