The Pahalgam terror attack has devastated many families and has shook the nation to the core. In response, India has now banned Pakistani drama channels on YouTube, including ARY, Har Pal Geo and Hum TV, and others. The stance was implemented by the government of India on recommendations from the ministry of Home affairs.
Is someone tries to view the content in the banned channels, this message will be displayed: “This content is currently unavailable in this country because of an order from the government related to national security or public order.”
Pakistani dramas has mustered a terrific fanbase in India with growing stardom of actors. The relatable storyline, slice-of-life characters and gripping runtime, the dramas received a special place in Indian household. The virality begun since 2016 with Zindagi Gulzar Hai, starring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, and gained traction thereon.
Despite political tensions, Indian fanbase grew like no other. Actors like Mahira Khan, Wahaj Ali, Yumna Zaidi, Sanam Saeed, Sajal Ali, Bilal Abbas, Fawad Khan, among others enjoyed massive support through fan pages and appreciation posts.
Nonetheless, some users who are using Jio network may still be able to access some videos from channels but the common notification by the government stills pops up in the home page.
Pahalgam terror attack aftermath
Post the mishap, India terminated the Indus water treaty with Pakistan, secured the borders and banned trade. It also issued notices to the Pakistani citizens in India to leave the country with immediate effect.
Earlier, India issued ban on only 16 channels for propagating hate and provocative statements. This has now escalated to the entertainment channels as well.
India posed the ban citing various reasons in addition to the terror attack. The channels imparted fake news for Indian army, foreign policy, agenda of Jammu and Kashmir and other engulfing instances that gave a wrong notion towards India.
Moreover, the X handle of the government of Pakistan has been blocked by India after the incident which claimed 26 lives and injured many.
