Prakash Raj retaliates on the ban of Fawad Khan’s Abir Gulaal: ‘You can’t ban films’

Fawad Khan was all set to appear in Abir Gulaal, to be released on May 9. Post the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in April, the release faced a standstill, rather a complete ban. Actor Prakash Raj, in response to it, made an unconventional statement on the ban.

In conversation with The Lallantop, Prakash said, “I’m not for any banning of films, whether it’s right-wing or a propaganda film. Let people decide. People have the right. You can’t ban films, unless it’s pornography or about child abuse. But thought process? So what? Let them come, no!”

He added, “Today, anybody can get hurt. ‘I’ll cut the nose of Deepika Padukone! I’ll behead her!’ Useey kya hoga (what effect would that have)?. Shah Rukh Khan… just because of a colour? Besharam rang na… they can make a hue and cry about anything they want and the present power are letting that happen, to create a fear in the society.”

Prakash also indicated the controversy that engulfed during Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. Boycott calls emerged for the film and even actor Deepika received massive threats. He also referred to the chaos created after a orange bikini featured in the song Besharam Rang in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan.

Abir Gulal is a romantic film directed by Aarti S. Bagdi and backed by Vivek Agrawal, was ruled out for release in India on 9 May. In the hindsight, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) claimed its directive to shut down the collaborations with Pakistani artists. They sought for non-cooperation with every Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians and not confer them opportunities in the Indian showbiz.
