Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma disclosed about falling a trap to a financial fraud previously this month. A couple of days later, they were blamed with allegedly kidnapping Bengali film producer Shyam Sunder Dey, in addition to physically assaulting and extorting money from him. An FIR was registered against the duo by Shyam’s wife, Malabika Dey. On Friday, Puja shared her statement over the controversy claiming the ‘toughest time’ of their lives.
Puja broke her silence
Puja posted on Instagram, “Going through the toughest time of our lives, those who are standing by us we will be forever grateful to you all. And those who believe in the lies spread against us god bless them too. I believe in God and u know GOD IS WATCHING.” She wrote in the caption, “God is great.”
The charges against the couple
Malabika posted a note on her Facebook account, that read, “This incident is not just a serious crime, it is a betrayal and a breach of trust towards a friend. In addition to physical and mental abuse on Shyam, our entire family is suffering deep mental damage from this incident. We are tackling the legal way and have full confidence in the judicial system. I urge all creative society members to be alert”. She claimed that Shyam was threatened to face repercussions for his involvement in a drug case, hence being forced to pay the couple ₹64 lakh as an extortion amount.
She mentioned that through the aid of Goa Police, Shyam was bought to the rescue.
