Radhika Apte announces her debut project as director; deets here

The feature film will be backed by filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane.

Radhika Apte is bracing up for her maiden project as director. The actor, who has been in a number of critically praised films in recent years, including Padman, Andhadhun, Monica O My Darling, and others, will now direct her first motion picture, Kotya, an action fantasy.

Variety reported that the announcement was made as part of the CinéV-CHD Market schedule, which also included the second edition of India’s Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF). 22 projects by well-known and up-and-coming filmmakers are featured on the schedule.

According to the report, Radhika’s debut work is a “Hindi/Marathi action-fantasy follows a young migrant sugarcane cutter who gains superpowers after a forced medical procedure and uses them to free her family from debt.”

Hansal Mehta, Nandita Das, All We Imagine As Light actress Kani Kusruti, The Sky is Pink director Shonali Bose, and Eeb Alley Ooo! creator Prateek Vats are among the other projects announced as part of the program.

Radhika was recently spotted in Sister Midnight. It achieved a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer and later made an international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
