Over the years, a number of TV series and films have adapted the Indian epic Ramayana. Even though Ramanand Sagar’s TV show aired decades ago, it is still regarded as the greatest of all. In Nitesh Tiwari’s next film, Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi will portray the main parts of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, respectively. Actress Dipika Chikhlia, who portrayed Sita in Sagar’s adaptation of the epic, said in a recent interview that she has no interest in working on Tiwari’s movie.

In a recent chat with Siddharth Kannan veteran Bollywood actress Dipika Chikhlia was asked if she would be interested in appearing in Nitesh Tiwari’s next film, Ramayana, during the interview.

The actor remembers being asked to portray Kausalya in a television show that was based on the Hindu epic. Her brother stated, “You are known as Sita, and you should die as Sita,” in contrast to her husband’s advice that she follow her gut and answer the phone appropriately. She therefore began to think along the same lines and believed that the audience had come to know her as Sita Ji over the previous few decades.

“Then why should I fiddle with my image? I am Sita, I have accepted it,” she said, stating that she has accepted the responsibility of being Sita for the last 35 years, so why should she attempt to be someone else?

“Sometimes I wonder, how can you even ask me something like that?” Dipika Chikhlia added.

Two production companies approached the actress to work on their movie, she disclosed. In both roles, however, they wanted her to hold a cigarette. As a result, she graciously declined to collaborate with them.

Meanwhile, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, the two-part story will be released in theaters in 2026 and 2027 on Diwali. It stars Sunny Deol, Ravi Dueby and Kunal Kapoor in lead roles.
