Ranbir Kapoor was originally casted for Raanjhanaa; here’s why it was unable to come to pass

Raanjhanaa was more than just a movie; it was a feeling. Rai admitted that Ranbir Kapoor was the first person he thought of in an interview with Bollywood Hungama.

That’s when Aanand’s Tanu Weds Manu became a smash hit, he revealed during the conversation as an ice-breaker. “If I had more faith in myself, I would have made Tanu Weds Manu 2. But I and Himanshu (Sharma) felt that a story like Raanjhanaa needed to be told,” he added.

Rai further mentioned, “An actor who keeps himself simple and lets himself blend into the crowd, which is a difficult thing, I believe, is Ranbir Kapoor, but he was not available at that time and as we were searching for such an actor, we found Dhanush.”

Along with Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Abhay Deol, Sonam Kapoor, and Swara Bhasker in major roles, Raanjhanaa was a huge commercial hit.The soundtrack for this 2013 masterpiece, composed by AR Rahman, included hits like the title track and Tum Tak, Piya Milenge, Tu Mun Shudi, Banarasiya, and Nazar Laaye.

Additional projects

Following Raanjhanaa, Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar costarred in the romantic drama Atrangi Re, which brought Anand L Rai and Dhanush back together in 2021.

Recently as per a Pinkvilla report, the duo will collaborate again in Tere Ishk Mein, which is expected to loop in Kriti Sanon as well

The Pinkvilla report added, “Kriti Sanon heard the narration from Aanand L Rai a couple of months back and has shown interest in getting into the world of this action love story. The story aside, the actress has also liked her character’s arc and the way it transforms in the story.”
