Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol’s iconic DDLJ characters to be etched in bronze at the Leicester Square
The film continues to receive massive love from more than five million British South Asian fanbase according to YRF.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) is beyond a mere Bollywood film, it is an emotion capturing hearts across the world. The film starred the best of all Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in lead roles Their camaraderie and romance was deeply admired. Recently, as per the media reports, the duo’s characters will be sculpted in bronze at the London’s Square movie trail in Leicester Square.
As posted by Yash Raj Films, the Heart of London Business Alliance proclaimed the establishment of the statue at the ‘Scenes in the Square’ movie trail in Leicester Square as a tribute to the Indian film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).
For about three decades, the film has spread love, belongingness and warmth to the fans and now will be immortalised as the first ever Indian film to receive the honor. The maiden project of Aditya Chopra garnered innumerous awards and had emerged as a all-time blockbuster
The bronze statue will be crafted with precision featuring the legendary stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, in the world famous DDLJ pose. It will be unfurled in the 2025 Spring.
About Shah Rukh Khan starrer DDLJ
DDLJ was released in 1995, also starring ace veteran actors Amrish Puri and Anupam Kher in prominent roles. The film features the story of two non-resident Indians, Raj and Simran, and their unprecedented, uncanny love story travelled across an arch from Europe to India, starting off during a train journey from King’s Cross Station.
The venue of the statue establishment seems like a fitting irony to the film’s scene when the lead character first crosses paths. This was the moment when Raj played by Shah Rukh Khan walked past the Vue Cinema and Simran played by Kajol crosses the Odeon Leicester Square.
As stated by YRF, the statue will be installed amidst the eastern terrace facing the Odeon Cinema as a tribute to the film’s momentous scene.
Alongside the YRF film, ten more films in the last 100 years will be conferred the honor past 100 years, including Harry Potter, Laurel & Hardy, Bugs Bunny, Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain, Mary Poppins, Mr. Bean, Paddington and DC Super-Heroes Batman and Wonder Woman.
Mark Williams, Deputy Chief Executive at Heart of London Business Alliance, termed it a “fitting tribute to Bollywood’s global popularity and a celebration of London’s rich diversity.”
