On Monday, South Korean R&B artist Choi Whee Sung, aka Wheesung, was sadly discovered dead. He was 43 years old when he passed away from cardiac arrest. K-media site JoongAng Ilbo said that the singer died suddenly at his home in Seoul’s eastern Gwangjin District.
Wheesung, better known by his stage name Realslow, made major contributions to the South Korean music business throughout the course of more than 20 years of his life. As a member of the boy band A4, which was founded by DR Music, he began his career in 1999. Jay, Steve, Austin, and Weeseung were the four Korean-American members of the group. After Weeseung left, the band split in 2001, ending their brief existence.
In 2002, Weeseung signed with M Boat, a former subsidiary firm of YG Entertainment, to make his solo debut. Fans embraced his debut solo album, Like A Movie. Many well-known performers of the time, such as Shin Seung Hun and Seo Taiji, also cherished it. In 2003, Wheesung became the best-selling artist in Korea after his second album, It’s Real, matched the success of his debut.
His subsequent hits included “Can’t I?” and “With Me, I even thought about getting married.” He worked as an MC on Mnet’s TV program, Pre Star-1 Show, and with well-known performers including Lee Hyori. He also produced records and performed in musical theater.
Fans are devastated by both his passing and the fact that they will not be able to attend his forthcoming events.
