Star Wars fame Kelly Marie Tran reveals her sexuality for the first time: ‘I’m a queer person’

Post the LGBTQ+ drive, many celebrities have publicly come out and discussed their sexual orientation, normalizing queerness in society. Actress Kelly Marie Tran, recently disclosed in an interview with Vanity Fair prior to the premiere of her latest movie, The Wedding Banquet, about her sexuality.

The singer revealed that she was excited about her most recent project because it allowed her to play a character that she felt she understood. Tran stated, “I haven’t said this publicly yet, but I’m a queer person.”

Tran mentioned that she didn’t feel like she was acting during this venture. She went on to say, “I had never been in a queer space before,” and that she was collaborating with those incredible people on that incredible movie. For the first time, she claimed, she felt “accepted before.”

Tran plays Angela, who tries to conceive through IVF with her partner Lee (played by Lily Gladstone) in the film, which is a remake of the 1993 film of the same name.

According to the outlet, her character arranges a fictitious traditional Korean wedding with a male friend in order to acquire money for IVF once he receives a green card.

She also mentioned that her experience was extremely similar to the scenes she had with Joan Chen, who is also in the movie.

The film’s director, Andrew Ahn, stated during his discussion of the film that he wanted to produce a tale that “felt reflective to the community” because that is how he experienced it as a child. He added, “The spirit is the same, and I think it’s even more queer.” Fans can expect The Wedding Banquet to hit theaters during the spring season, per the publication.
