SUGA DUI Case: JTBC issues public apology over false viral footage involving BTS’ rapper
Following the outrage over of the false information, the public forced JTBC to issue an apology.
BTS’s Suga is reportedly being investigated for a suspected drunk driving incident. He was found lying on the ground in Hannam-dong, and local police responded to his call after smelling alcohol. When the story surfaced on August 7, 2024, JTBC was the first to release purported CCTV footage of the incident.
On August 14, a week later, DangA Ilbo released the purportedly accurate footage and declared that JTBC’s footage did not depict Suga’s incident.
The incident involving Suga’s drunk driving was once again featured on JTBC’s nightly news on August 15. This time, JTBC made note of the fact that the video they initially released was erroneous.
JTBC issued a public statement which read, ” JTBC published a CCTV footage of a scooter cruising down the main road opposite Nine One Hannam that was from a similar time as when the police found Suga, on the next day. However, after the police investigated the routes and such, it was confirmed that it was not Suga operating the vehicle in the said video.”
About the incident
The muddle caused by the various CCTV clips that were made public by the media has led to a great deal of discussion concerning his car. Suga was riding an electric scooter from Brand E that folds up, per the police’s most recent statement. As with electric scooters, personal mobility vehicles must not exceed 25 kmph in order to be subject to traffic laws. According to a police officer speaking with the media, Suga’s car has a 30 kmph speed limit, so his case falls under the category of an applicant for motorized bike traffic laws.
