Top favorite K-pop songs of the century: From PSY’s Gangnam Style to BTS’ Dynamite
These songs continue to be beloved centerpieces of K-pop’s colorful legacy, even as the genre develops and influences international music trends.
As per a recent Gallup Korea study, which was carried out from August 19 to 23, PSY’s viral smash song Gangnam Style has emerged as the most cherished K-Pop hit song of the 21st century. Of the 1,052 participants in the survey, ages 19 to 69, an astounding 52% selected Gangnam Style as their favorite song from a list of 20 classic K-Pop hits.
PSY’s Gangnam Style, which debuted in 2012, became an international craze because to its catchy beat and iconic dance motions. Not only did it reach an unprecedented #2 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 list, but it also broke records on YouTube by being the first K-Pop video to receive more than 5 billion views.
Dynamite, a smashing song by BTS, came in second place with 46% of the vote. Dynamite, BTS’s first entirely English-language single, was released in 2020 and went on to become a phenomenal hit, peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and garnering accolades for its upbeat, retro-inspired sound. The song’s high rating in the poll was influenced by its upbeat vibe and appealing beat, which connected with listeners all across the world.
Wonder Girls’ “Tell Me” came in third place with 15% of the vote, behind Dynamite. This 2007 hit, which many still find nostalgic, had a major influence on the K-Pop scene in the early 2000s. Good Day by IU, which is renowned for its soaring vocals and endearing melody, finished in fourth place with 13%, and DDU-DU DDU-DU, the powerful song by BLACKPINK, arrived in fifth place with 11%.
Other well-liked songs were also featured in the poll, including Gee by Girls’ Generation, which came in sixth, Lies by BIGANG, which came in seventh, and Trust In Me by Lim Young Woong and Ditto by NewJeans, which tied for ninth place. BoA’s top ranking completed the top 10.
