Umrao Jaan re-release: Rekha’s iconic classic to face Kajol-starrer Maa at the theaters

The re-release wave is not going to stop soon! Umrao Jaan starring legendary actor Rekha will be released again. The cult-classic in an amplified 4K quality has been initiated by the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) and National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). The film will be released on June 27th. As per the box office framework, the film will face Kajol’s mythological thriller, Maa.

Helmed by Muzaffar Ali, the classic is estimated to hit the theaters on limited shows, in comparison to Maa.

Maa is helmed by Vishal Furia and backed by Ajay Devgn and Kumar Mangat Pathak. The horror movie belongs to the Shaitaan universe, which have helped to create the hype and solid word-of-mouth.

The film dates back to 1981, Umrao Jaan featured Farooq Shaikh, Naseeruddin Shah, Raj Babbar, Shaukat Kaifi, Dina Pathak, Satish Shah, among others. The movie channelises the emotions of love, loss, and longing through the lens of a 19th-century Lucknow-based courtesan-poetess, portrayed by Rekha.

The classic hit gave beautifully composed songs like Dil Cheez Kya Hai, In Aankhon Ki Masti by Khayyam. Rekha’s performance earned her the coveted National Film Award for Best Actress.
