The period drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal and based on the life of the renowned Maratha monarch Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has been awarded tax-free status by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
On Wednesday, on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary, Mohan Yadav announced the news at a public gathering.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the popular call earlier in the day to give the historical drama Chhaava, which is based on the life of the renowned Maratha monarch Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, tax-free status.

“On the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary, I announce tax-free release of the Hindi film ‘Chhava’ based on his son Sambhaji Maharaj,” he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Fadnavis said he was pleased with the film’s depiction of history and that he had received good reviews from the general population. “I am happy that a very good movie has been made on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. While I have yet to watch it, I have heard from people that this film has been made without distorting history,” Fadnavis said.
He went on to say that the entertainment tax has already been eliminated in Maharashtra in 2017, reinstating, “We will see what best we can do to promote this film and make it available to as many people as possible.”
