Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, startled the cricketing world with his erratic action. In the 2024–2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the sports star willingly stepped back from the Sydney Test match between Australia and India. Netizens have conceived this in different ways.

Actress Vidya Balan, however, found it touching. She therefore supported him on Twitter. Balan’s team has since responded, saying that she only posted because his gesture of selflessness touched her.

On January 4, Vidya Balan tweeted, “Rohit Sharma, what a SUPERSTAR! To take a pause & catch your breath requires courage … More power to you … Respect! @ImRo45.”

She was involved in Rohit Sharma’s publicity stunt, as numerous astute internet users discovered shortly after. Some even said that she simply copied and pasted the language that the Indian captain’s public relations department supplied her. In a forceful response to all of the bullying, Balan’s team said that she only tweeted because she was moved by “his selfless act.”

In response to the actor’s tweet, her team stated, “Let it be unequivocally stated that Ms. Balan posted this completely of her own volition because she was moved by his selfless act, and NOT by request from his PR team. Ms. Balan is not an avid sports fan, but she is a fan of those who show dignity and class under trying circumstances. To attribute her actions to anything other than a spontaneous reaction to something she found admirable is completely preposterous.” (sic)

Additionally, actor-director Farhan Akhtar in his Instagram post, he referred to the Indian cricket player as a “superstar” and congratulated him for demonstrating to the world that he prioritized the Indian cricket team over himself.
