Vir Das achieves another feat; becomes first-ever Indian to host the International Emmy Awards

His last Netflix special, “Vir Das: For India,” was nominated for an International Emmy in the Comedy category as well.

The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced that actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das will host the 2024 International Emmy Awards. There will be an awards event in New York City on November 25. Presenter Das, who won the trophy for his Netflix comedy show Landing in 2023 after being nominated for an International Emmy in the Comedy category in 2021, will take the stage this time. He is touted to be the show’s first-ever Indian presenter.

“We’re delighted to welcome back Vir Das to our stage and to add International Emmy host to his impressive list of talents,” stated Bruce L Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Das posted on Instagram, “Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host, I can’t wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honoured and excited!”

“I’m thrilled to be the International Emmys host. It’s a hugely important occasion to support content creators from all over the world who, in my opinion, are producing some of its best work,” Vir Das added. “I know first-hand how it can be life-changing”

In addition to doing stand-up comedy, Das has created, produced, and appeared in several television programs, including Hasmokh on Netflix, the travel series Destination Unknown on Prime Video, and the spy drama-comedy Whiskey Cavalier on Netflix. He also starred in a number of films, including The Bubble directed by Judd Apatow.
