Chahat was a cricket player before he became a singer. He was Kashif Rana when he was a teenager and was a first-class cricket player for Lahore. He scored sixteen runs in the Quaid-E-Azam Trophy competition of 1983–1984. He later relocated to the UK in search of better possibilities, where he spent 12 years playing club cricket.

He disclosed last year that former Pakistani Test cricketer Aaqib Javed had played under his command. The revelation came from an interview with Murtaza Ali Shah. Khan added that he taught Javed how to bowl on line and length after finding him at a Sheikhupura government school.
