Why is actor Tang Wei involved in the ongoing Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron dating scandal?

Actor Kim Soo Hyun has recently been in the center of controversy after Kim Sae Ron’s aunt accused him of dating the late actress when she was a minor.

After being seen attending events with Kim Soo Hyun and exchanging a few photos with him, actress Tang Wei has now inadvertently become embroiled in the ongoing Kim Soo Hyun-Kim Sae Ron issue.

At the 18th Asian Film Awards on March 16, 2025, Tang Wei was approached about the Kim Soo Hyun incident by a reporter who seemed anxious to hear her thoughts. The actress, who seemed surprised by the question, explained that although she had seen Kim Soo Hyun at a premiere, she was not close to him.

In a composed response to a follow-up question about whether she had stayed in touch with the actor, Tang Wei said she didn’t know him well and hadn’t kept in touch. The conversation went on when the reporter asked if she would think about contacting him. Tang Wei stated, “Actually, I don’t know him. Sorry.”

Her answers were stern yet courteous. The interview immediately went viral online, especially on Weibo, where internet users argued over whether it was appropriate to include Tang Wei in the conversation at all, even though she made it apparent that she had nothing to do with the incident.

Social media users quickly reacted negatively, believing the actress had been unjustly included in the debate. The media was chastised by netizens for attempting to associate her with an incident in which she was not involved.

Many people valued Tang Wei’s composed and polite answers, but they also highlighted the difficulties faced by celebrities who inadvertently become involved in public disputes.

In the current media frenzy, the incident is still a talking point even if she has distanced herself from it.

The public’s attention has already been drawn to Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron’s personal life due to the involvement of other celebrities, such as BTS and actress Jun Ji Hyun, in dating rumors.
