Will Dr. Doom appear as a variant of Tony Stark? Theories over the supposed antagonist role decoded

Coming soon to the Marvel universe is the much awaited actor Robert Downey Jr. The Oscar-winning actor is set to return to the superhero franchise as the evil Dr. Doom, according to information revealed on July 27 at the San Diego Comic Con MCU panel. The panel also disclosed that Doomsday and Secret Wars director Russo brothers will return to the role of director.

It is planned for May 2026 to see the debut of Downey Jr. as Dr. Evil. There have been numerous media theories speculating that Downey Jr.’s villainous arc might simply be another Tony Stark from an alternate reality.

Since Dr. Doom first appeared, there have been high hopes for the upcoming movie to perform incredibly well at the box office. Marvel comics readers would concur that Victor von Doom doesn’t often take off his mask.

If the comic book plot is to be followed in the film adaptation, and Downey Jr. is cast as Dr. Doom, then the character’s face resembles Tony Stark’s, though with a scar.

Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, is rumored to have been replaced by the antagonist Dr. Doom. Since then, Major has not reprised his role as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of legal concerns. Majors recently told TMZ that he is devastated to be replaced in his new role by Robert Downey Jr. because he loved the character he portrayed on screen.
