The two seasons of the American mockumentary television series American Vandal were broadcast on Netflix in 2017 and 2018. After its second season, the Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault-created show was officially canceled, much to the dismay of its viewers. But in light of the recent events, there have been rumors that the show might return with a new season if CBS is successful in obtaining the show’s rights from Netflix.
Is American Vandal reviving for season 3?
The program is a parody of serial and Making a Murderer, two popular true crime documentaries. Deadline has reported that CBS has now regained ownership of the show’s rights.
In an interview with Deadline, David Stapf, President of CBS Studios, stated that the company is currently preparing to delve deeper into the world of American Vandal and promised a revival of the show at some point. “We’re exploring that, we loved that show and that title. There’s nothing imminent, but we hope to bring it back in some fashion at some point,” Stapf stated.
Cancellation announced on Netflix
In 2022, Netflix made a formal announcement about the cancellation of The American Vandal. In a previous interview with ComingSoon, Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the show’s creators, discussed similar topics. Yacenda expressed that although the show’s cancellation was disappointing, they were still grateful for the opportunity to share their story with the world.
“I think it’s a bummer to have something you love canceled, but we also are so grateful for the opportunity. If you describe the premise of that show to anyone, it’s crazy that somebody let us make that show in the first place…I don’t think we could complain about the latter without being very grateful for the former,” Yacenda mentioned.
