Controversy erupted during the IPL match between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans when umpires failed to provide crucial evidence to the Gujarat captain, leading to a lost review in the very first over.
The incident occurred when Umesh Yadav bowled a back of a length delivery to Devdutt Padikkal, which appeared to have taken an inside edge on its way to the pads. The umpire ruled it not out, leading to a review from Gujarat captain Shubman Gill.
While the third umpire spotted a deflection, indicating an inside edge, the crucial UltraEdge footage was not shown on the big screen. This left Gill and the Gujarat team baffled, as they were seeking confirmation from the technology before making a decision on the review.
Despite Gill’s protestations, the on-field umpire, Nitin Menon, did not feel the need to check UltraEdge, leaving the Gujarat dugout fuming. As a result, they lost their review in the very first over of the match, putting them at a potential disadvantage for the remainder of the innings.
The decision has sparked a debate about the use of technology in cricket and the importance of transparency in the decision-making process.
