IPL 2024: Who is KKR’s new number three Angkrish Raghuvanshi?

Angkrish Raghuvanshi entered the fray as an impact substitute for Varun Chakaravarthy in the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday. However, the lad didn’t have an opportunity to bat.

Technically, his debut can be considered today against Delhi Capitals, where the young talent came in at number 3 and stunned the cricketing world with his batting fireworks, scoring an impressive fifty in just 25 deliveries.

But who is Angkrish Raghuvanshi?

He was part of India’s U-19 World Cup squad in 2022 and emerged as the leading run-scorer for his team in the tournament, amassing 278 runs in six outings with an average of 46.23. The right-handed batter made his List A debut in November and started playing senior T20s in October 2023. While in the one-day format, Angkrish has scored 133 runs in five innings so far, in T20s, the 18-year-old has amassed 138 runs in seven innings at a strike rate exceeding 115. His cricketing journey commenced when he relocated to Mumbai from Delhi at the tender age of 11 to undergo training under Abhishek Nayar and Omkar Salvi for a week. Eventually, it was Nayar who suggested to Angkrish’s parents that he should consider permanently moving to the city.
