Jannik Sinner wins ATP Miami Open title with victory over Grigor Dimitrov

At Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, Italy’s Jannik Sinner defeated Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-1 to win the ATP Miami Open Masters 1000 title. Sinner’s third title of the season will push him to a career-high second in the ATP global rankings on Monday, ahead of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

Furthermore, the way he played—cool under pressure, making few mistakes with total confidence, implies that when Novak Djokovic finally surrenders the top spot, Sinner and Alcaraz will fight for supremacy for years to come.

Sinner finishes the hard court season with a bang, having won 25 of his last 26 games. His only defeat came against Alcaraz in the Indian Wells semifinal.

Sinner never seemed in danger after breaking in the fifth game of the first set, with only one break point in the entire match.

Sinner’s second break, a stunning backhand down the line that lighted up the audience, sealed the opening set. The home crowd was cheering for Dimitrov, who was with his trademark one-handed backhand strokes and was not afraid to go to the net, but Sinner’s cool attitude and flawless technique proved too much for him.

With a great serve and return, the Italian broke early in the second set to take a 3-1 lead. From there, it was an easy win.

Sinner’s last Masters 1000 victory came in Toronto in 2023. Dimitrov will return to the top ten in Monday’s rankings for the first time since October 2018.
