Due to a hamstring injury, Lionel Messi will be out for Inter Miami’s home match against New York City FC on Saturday. However, he may be fit to play the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal against Monterrey of Mexico on April 3.

After missing Saturday, the Argentina star will have appeared in nine of Miami’s 19 MLS games since signing last summer.

Miami coach Javier Morales stated on Friday, “He is working with the physios, but he won’t be available because we are doing all we can to get him ready for next Wednesday. There is a possibility he will play in that game — that is what we are working for.”

Messi hasn’t played for Miami since March 13, when he left a 3-1 win over Nashville early in the second half due to discomfort in his right hamstring. The MSL club has won all five of Messi’s games this season, but without him, they have dropped two of the past three, most recently 4-0 against New York last Saturday.

The 36-year-old was also missing from Argentina’s exhibition matches against Costa Rica and El Salvador this month.
