Lionel Messi’s arrival in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States has brought a new wave of enthusiasm across the country. Inter Miami, Messi’s new team after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, is among the most popular teams in the world.

Not only has the well-known David Beckham’s marketing plan been successful on the field, but off it as well. The Herons won their first trophy since MLS accepted Beckham’s expansion team in 2018, winning the 2023 Leagues Cup.

It appears that Messi’s influence extends beyond Inter Miami, where he plays. The team will go to the relegation-threatened New England Revolution in April.

As of March 27, more than 60,000 tickets had been sold for the Inter Miami game, according to a press release released by the Revs.

The attendance figure is anticipated to surpass the team’s previous best of 61,316, set during the LA Galaxy’s 2002 MLS Cup hosting against the New England Patriots.

The previous record for the most people attending a Revolution home game during the regular season was achieved in 1997, when New England faced the Tampa Bay Mutiny as part of a doubleheader with a World Cup qualification game between Mexico and the United States.

The New England Patriots, six-time Super Bowl champions, play their home games at Gillette Stadium, which opened in 2002. The stadium had a record 42,947 spectators for a Revolution regular-season game in 2015.
