Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffers another injury setback ahead of Manchester City UCL match

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffers another injury setback ahead of Manchester City UCL match

On Tuesday afternoon, Marca reported that Courtois left training in tears after tests indicated an injured meniscus in his right knee. The current injury appears to put him out for the rest of the season since the Belgian has already missed the whole campaign after tearing the ACL in his left knee in August. Although the same problem did not recur, the meniscus damage will probably still need to be repaired surgically.

After recovering from one of the worst injuries in football over the past seven months, Courtois was just a few weeks away from playing again. Although Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, had anticipated having Courtois return after the March international break, it now appears like he won’t play again until 2024–2025.

In addition to missing the rest of the club season, Courtois will almost definitely miss Belgium’s Euro 2024 campaign this summer. His possibilities of playing in that competition were already poor, following a recent spat with Red Devils coach Domenico Tedesco.

While Courtois’s absence did not harm Real Madrid’s chances of winning La Liga, his skill and vast experience would have been helpful as they advanced through the Champions League and got ready to play Manchester City in the quarterfinals next month.
