DRDO-Industry Collaboration Powers Vikram VT 21 Armoured Platform to Trial Stage

Showcasing a strong public-private partnership model, DRDO’s VRDE and leading industry players flagged off the Vikram VT 21 advanced armoured platform for field trials.

The project, co-developed with Bharat Forge Limited, Tata Advanced Systems Limited, and MSMEs, represents a collaborative effort to build next-generation armoured systems.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Samir. V. Kamat noted that this project is testament to the effectiveness of the Development Cum Production Partner (DCPP) model, in bringing together DRDO’s expertise and industry partners’ scale, to leapfrog platform design and development.

Developed in under three years, the platform demonstrates accelerated defence innovation through joint problem-solving and continuous engagement.

Amit Kalyani, VC & JMD of Bharat Forge Ltd, highlighted that the Vikram is a feat of systems engineering that brings together a ruggedised vehicle chassis and unmanned turret.

The platform has cleared Technical Evaluation Committee requirements for key Ministry of Defence programmes and is aligned with India’s export ambitions in defence manufacturing.
