As part of its community outreach initiatives, Tenneco Clean Air India Limited organised a plogging drive near Mahadev Temple, Nighoje, in Chakan to promote clean and green surroundings.
The location is a high-footfall public area and frequently faces dry waste accumulation. The drive aimed to clean the immediate surroundings while encouraging residents and commuters to adopt responsible waste disposal practices.
Around 95 employees from the Chakan manufacturing facility participated in the initiative. Prior to the drive, volunteers were briefed on safety measures, waste segregation and reducing plastic usage. Participants were also encouraged to carry reusable water bottles, and were provided with volunteer kits consisting of waste collection bags and brooms.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Arvind Chandra, whole-time Director and CEO, Tenneco India, said:
“In a rapidly growing industrial region like Chakan, open dumping and unmanaged waste have real impacts on roads, local health, and the daily life of residents and workers. Through this plogging drive, Tenneco Clean Air India is turning awareness into action by encouraging responsible waste disposal and recycling, while actively involving our employees in building cleaner, greener communities. This reflects how we approach sustainability, not just in our operations, but in the communities, we are part of.”
During the activity, volunteers collected only dry waste, resulting in the collection of 43 bags weighing 290.2 kg in total. The waste was segregated into paper and plastic and handed over to the municipal garbage collection van for appropriate disposal and recycling.
