13 cringe-worthy dialouges from Om Raut’s Adipurush

The 2023 mythological action film, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, received flak for its awful visual effects and awkward Adipurush dialogue.

We grew up seeing numerous adaptations of the Hindu classic Ramayana by Valmiki. With his film Adipurush, director Om Raut 2023 offered a fresh yet unacceptable take on the Ramayana.

Manoj Muntashir, a dialogue writer, first stood by his work but then acknowledged it as a “mistake.” In the meanwhile, following strong criticism from the public, the creators changed a few of the dialogues.

1. “Kapda teri Lanka ka, tel teri Lanka ka, aag bhi tere Lanka ki, jalega bhi teri Lanka hi.”

Devdatta Nage, playing Bajrang, spoke the lines after Indrajit, also known as Meghanada, burns his tail in Lankesh’s Lanka. Vatsal Sheth played the role of Indrajit.

2. “Janki me mere pran baste hain aur maryada mujhe apne prano se bhi adhik priye hai.” 

In a scene, Prabhas, playing Raghava, muttered this conversation regarding Janaki, played by Kriti Sanon.

3. “Mere ek sapole ne tumhare iss sheshnaag ko samapt kar diya hai.”

Indrajit speaks this statement in a rewritten dialogue after criticizing Sunny Singh’s portrayal of Shesh. The dialogue was previously read as “Mere ek sapole ne tumhare iss sheshnaag ko lamba kar diya.”

4. “Jo hamari behenon ko haath lagayenge hum unki Lanka mein aag laga denge.”

The previous version of this dialogue was read as “Jo hamari behenon ko haath lagayenge hum unki Lanka laga denge.”

5. “Tum andar kaise ghuse? Tum jaante bhi ho kaun hoon main.”

Bajrang enters Lanka in a scenario to meet Janaki. Indrajit arrives in the interim and yells at him. This dialogue was initially understood as “Yeh teri bua ka bagicha hai kya jo hawa khaane aa gaya.”

6. “Aap Ayodhya ke Yuvraaj hain, ek sanket karenge toh saari sena aapke saath ladegi.”

7. “Hum janm se nahin karm se chhote ya bade hote hain.” 

This exchange takes place in a scene where Sabari questions Raghava about touching her feet.

8. “Raghava me mujhe paane ke liye Shivdhanush toda tha, ab unhe Raavan ka ghamand todna hoga.”

Janaki utters these words as she remembers how her spouse Raghava captured her heart by shattering Lord Shiva’s celestial bow.

9. “Brahmand mein jo bhi paane laayak hai tu paa chuka hai phir bhi tu rakshas hi hai. Lakshmi ko paale Narayan ho jaega.”

Channeling his force, Adipurush actor Saif Ali Khan, who plays Lankesh (also known as Raavana), delivered this dialogue which received much hate.

10. “Aa raha hoon main nyaay ke do pairon se anyaay ke dus sarr kuchalne. Aa raha hoon adharm ka vidhwans karne.” 

In the movie, Prabhas played Raghava, who issues a challenge to Lankesh to beat him in battle. Further leading to a dramatic discourse.

11. “Aap apne kaal ke liye kaaleen bicha rahe hain.”

Siddhanth Karnik, who portrayed Vibishana, Lankesh’s brother, said this line to Saif Ali Khan.

12. “Jali na? Abhi toh aur jalegi, jiski jalti hai wahi jaanta hai.”

During Bajrang’s tail-burning episode, Indrajit said this embarrassing dialogue which indeed was not accepted.

13. “Aaj mere liye mat ladna us din ke liye ladna jab itihaas mein tumhara naam padhkar samman se sarr jhukh jaenge. Ladoge? Toh aage badho aur gaad do ahankaar ki chaati mein Vijay ka bhagwa dhwaj.”

In a scene, Prabhas plays Raghava and uses these comments to inspire his troops to defeat Lankesh.

The 2023 movie Adipurush’s screenplay was written by director Om Raut. Kriti Sanon was cast as Sita Maa, and Prabhas as Lord Rama. Lord Lakshmana was portrayed by Sunny Singh. Playing the adversary Ravana, a king of the demons, was Saif Ali Khan whose appearance was yet another topic of contention.

Adipurush opened at theaters on June 16, 2023, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. It is available to watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on August 11 last year.
