Meiyazhagan and Lubber Pandhu, two Tamil films, are doing quite well at the box office.

The rural sports drama starring Harish Kalyan had another fantastic weekend, but the Karthi and Arvind Swamy film slowed down a little on the second weekend.
Meiyazhagan notes slow growth in the second week
With financing from Suriya and Jyothika through 2D Entertainment, the film brought in Rs 6 crore from Andhra Pradesh (Nizam), Rs 2.25 crore from Karnataka, Rs 0.75 crore from Kerala, and Rs 0.50 crore from the remaining regions of India. The film has the potential to hold steady at lower theater counts even though its second weekend box office performance dropped down a little.
Lubber Pandhu performs terrifically well
Even in its third weekend, Lubber Pandhu continues to have a stranglehold at the box office. Despite being a comparatively minor film given the face value of Meiyazhagan, the Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh starred rural sports drama still managed to exhibit greater hold in the state.
Lubber Pandhu, directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, made Rs 33.10 crore in total revenue at the Indian box office during its first 17 days of release. Tamil Nadu, where it brought in about Rs 30.75 crore, accounted for a sizable portion. The film also drew some viewers from Karnataka and Kerala, where it has so far taken in about Rs 2.15 crore and Rs 0.20 crore, respectively.
Is Meiyazhagan’s position at stake?
Meiyazhagan has done somewhat better abroad, while Lubber Pandhu has the advantage in the home markets. So far, the Karthi and Arvind Swamy movie is winning the race globally, but the Harish Kalyan movie has a chance to surpass it by the end of their theatrical runs.
Observing Meiyazhagan and Lubber Pandhu’s performances following the release of the highly anticipated Vetaiyan, which stars Superstar Rajinikanth for Dussehra, will be interesting.
