Catherine O’Hara spots her Schitt’s Creek moment in Beetlejuice 2; terms it ‘weird’
Crows’ stance while fluttering her arms reminds fans of Moira Rose.
Catherine O’Hara identified a significant parallel between her new feature Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Schitt’s Creek.
The new film’s opening scene has an art gallery, and in one particular art piece, the actress wears a complete white dress and poses with her arms flailing, while crows soar behind her. This is eerily similar to her character Moira Rose’s film The Crows Have Eyes in her comedy series Schitt’s Creek.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress revealed that another bird species was originally considered for the sequence, but crows were ultimately chosen. Director Tim Burton then asked her if she wanted to flap her arms, which she consented to.
O’Hara questioned if Burton had seen the acclaimed series. She didn’t think he had, and she didn’t want to assume, because it seemed “ego-based” to her.
However, Burton used the arm-flapping scene in the film, and O’Hara wasn’t sure if he’d seen Schitt’s Creek or recognized the crow allusion. She went on to say, “Isn’t it weird?! It’s strange that I’m flapping my arms and there are crows.
Winona Ryder, O’Hara’s co-star, discussed similarities between her character Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice 2 and Moira Rose in the comedy series.
Beetlejuice 2, which is currently in theaters, is a sequel to Tim Burton’s smash film Beetlejuice from 1988. It features Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Willen Dafoe, Monica Belluci.
