Officials announced on Saturday that CBI had submitted a closure report in the suspected suicide case of Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput. The CBI has presented its findings to a special court in Mumbai, which will now determine whether to accept the report or direct the agency to conduct additional research.
On June 14, 2020, Rajput, 34, was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his Bandra flat in the Mumbai suburbs. After his father, K K Singh, filed a complaint in Patna, the Bihar Police opened a case for abetment of suicide, which the central agency took over.
The CBI recorded the statements of Rhea Chakraborty, Rajput’s rumoured girlfriend, and other members of his close circle, and gathered the actor’s medical records. In his complaint to Bihar Police, Rajput’s father claimed that Chakraborty and her family had embezzled his son’s money, a charge she denied in television interviews. Forensic experts at AIIMS had rejected the claims of “poisoning and strangling” in their final medico-legal opinion to the CBI.
His father had accused actor Rhea Chakraborty of aiding and abetting suicide in a complaint. In a drug case involving Sushant, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained Rhea and her brother, Showik Chakraborty. After several months, they were given bail. Later, the case was turned over to the CBI, which has been investigating the actor’s passing ever since.
Sushant made his Bollywood debut with Kai Po Che. He is also known for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath, Shuddh Desi Romance, PK, Raabta, Sonchiriya, and Chhichhore. Dil Bechara, his last movie, was released on OTT, posthumously.
