K-pop band BTS faces investigation for ‘sajaegi’, over alleged charges of chart manipulation
The BTCCA has declared that it is looking into claims of “sajaegi,” or chart manipulation, made by BTS.
The legal battle at HYBE is getting worse as the disagreement over subsidiary power and ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin gets more intense. According to allegations that surfaced on May 21, the Ministry of Culture’s Korean Creative Content Agency verified receiving an official complaint against the legendary K-pop group BTS and the charges of chart manipulation.
KOCCA begins its investigative stint at HYBE
The K-pop boy band BTS, which consists of the seven members Jin, Suga, Jungkook, RM, Taehyung, and J-Hope, is still facing accusations of engaging in chart-rigging methods which dates back to 2017. K-media sources state that complaints were first filed with the Ministry of Culture before being moved to the KCCA.
The investigating team will get in touch with HYBE shortly to look into the allegations. Many K-netizens, on the other hand, found the news upsetting since they believe the claims to be completely untrue and saw it as an attempt to damage the group’s popularity.
Music Chart Manipulation
The report also mentions that KCCA is thinking about requesting assistance from courts or investigators if needed. According to Sports Kyunghyang, KCCA is also able to ask music streaming firms for information.
An insider from the industry said, “The term ‘music chart manipulation’ itself is misleading. Whether it’s physical albums or digital music, this is clearly ‘music chart manipulation.’ Whether KOCCA and its subordinate agencies will conduct a proper investigation into music chart manipulation remains questionable, given their close ties with music streaming platforms.”
About BTS sajaegi scuffle
The term “sajaegi,” which denotes the illicit act of manipulating music charts, is widely used in K-pop and has been responsible for the downfall of numerous K-pop acts. Even though BTS addressed the charges when they initially surfaced in 2017 and came out clear and blameless, the claims keep coming up and demand a thorough investigation. The charges first came to light in 2017 after an instance of blackmail.
“It should be noted that BigHit has consistently refuted the claims as defamatory. Previously, they stated,”Allegations of chart manipulation, marketing manipulation, concept plagiarism, connections to a cult, and other such claims that tarnish BTS’s reputation are false. We have repeatedly clarified that there is no such activity.”
