Although production for the fifth season is about to begin and scripts for the final season have already been completed, a recent report says that Yellowstone actor Kevin Costner wants to return for season 5 part 2. Previous reports claimed that because of disputes with showrunner Taylor Sheridan, Costner’s character John Dutton will not be appearing in the last episodes of the series. This implies that the family patriarch will probably be written out and the actor won’t be present for the grand finale.
According to Puck, Costner has decided to return for Yellowstone season 5 part 2, to portray John again for the show’s finale season. Still, the final scripts for the remaining episodes have already been written, and production is scheduled to begin in a few weeks. According to the report, Sheridan’s willingness to change his scripts to offer the actor a final appearance on the program is unclear.
In May 2023, it was reported that Costner might not return for the last episodes of the beloved Western series. By November, those reports had been affirmed. This implies that, despite the finale of season 5 part 1, which set the stage for him to step down as Governor of Montana, this plot may not be fully realized. Instead, everything will have to be worked out with the family patriarch offscreen.
Considering how significant his role would be in the final episodes, it appears Sheridan has a vision for what the plot will be like even with Costner’s exit.
