Filmmaker Payal Kapadia is returning to the Cannes Film Festival but this time joining the jury after her momentous Grand Prix win at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024. She bagged the award for her maiden feature film All We Imagine As Light.
Payal Kapadia’s association with Cannes

Payal is a graduate from Film and Television Institute of India and went to the festival in 2017 to showcase her short film Afternoon Clouds and then in 2021 for her non-fiction film A Night of Knowing Nothing. The latter made her win the L’Œil d’or for best documentary in 2021.
The jury will include French actor Juliette Binoche, American actor and filmmaker Halle Berry, Italian actor Alba Rohrwacher, French-Moroccan writer Leila Slimani, Congolese director and producer Dieudo Hamadi, Korean director and screenwriter Hong Sangsoo, Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas and American actor Jeremy Strong.
The panel is set to announce the top honor, the Palme d’or, to the best of the 21 films shortlisted in the competition. As reported by the official Cannes Film Festival website, the list of winners will be released on May 24 at the closing ceremony.
