On July 29, a terrifying event occurred in the small English town of Southport: a mass stabbing at a yoga and dance class with Taylor Swift as the theme. This senseless attack claimed the lives of three small children.
Details of the deceased
The three children who passed away were identified by Merseyside Police as Bebe King, age 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, age 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, age 9. During this trying time, the families are asking that their privacy should be respected. Bebe’s family released a heartbreaking statement in which they said that no words could ever fully express the devastation that has befallen them as they attempt to cope with the loss of their little girl.
Alice’s parents said in a joint statement: “Keep smiling and dancing like you love to do our Princess, like we said before to you, you’re always our princess and no one would change that.”
The tragedy
The venue for the event was The Hart Space, a dance school which held a themed party for kids aged six to eleven. About eleven fifty in the morning, a seventeen-year-old Cardiff, Wales resident came in brandishing a knife. He then launched an attack on everyone in the room, including adults and children.
Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy stated, “We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked.”
Taylor reacted
Law enforcement agencies do not consider this incident to be related to terrorism; the cause of the incident is still unknown. His arrest on suspicion of murder or attempted murder has been made while official charges are being confirmed.
Southport community deals with the mishap
In the wake of this attack, the Southport community is dealing with trauma and loss. Supporting the victims during this period of ongoing investigations is still the main priority.
