The sequel to Amar Kaushik’s Stree franchise, which was recently released, was mainly shot in Chanderi. The scene wherein Shraddha Kapoor bids Rajkummar Rao farewell was filmed against the backdrop of a building. The location in question is called Kati Ghati, and it lies in the Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh. It serves as a gateway to Chanderi.
The enormous gate, which is up to 10 meters high and 25 meters wide, was carved out of a massive hill made of live rock. This gate’s inscription, which is written in Devnagari and Nashq scripts, states that Jiman Khan, the son of Sher Khan, the Chanderi governor at the time, established Kati ghati in 1480 CE.
It was once said that when Ghiyasuddin Khilji, the Sultan of Malwa, announced his intention to visit Chanderi, the sudden need for a gate emerged. Jiman Khan pledged a large reward to the person who could carve the gate out, but he only had one night to get this gate made in Khilji’s welcome. It is reported that only one mason out of a hundred accepted this challenge and, interestingly, completed the task, leaving Khan astounded and taken aback.
Jiman, however, pointed out that there was no door in this gateway and that the Sultan of Malwa’s security might be in jeopardy because he didn’t want to purposely reward Mason. The unfortunate mason committed suicide there and then because he was unable to take the news that he would not be rewarded for his extraordinary diligence and left his body in the grave that can be seen directly next to the gate.
Today, Chanderi’s main draw for tourists is his sacrifice, but regrettably, there is still sadness associated with his name. According to a different account of Kati Ghati, Babur gave the order to cut the hill and create room for his army to pass through Chanderi because it was blocking their path. This version, however, is only found in extremely few locations.
