There have been several K-Pop groups which have debuted and disbanded after a while. Interestingly, there have been an exception too, a group which have thrived, metaphorically for ages. The boy group in the highlight is Supernova, that have preferred to stay on a hiatus, precisely the longest of all, 12 years.
In 2007, formerly Mnet Media (Wake One Entertainment) introduced the six-member boy group Supernova (better known as Choshinsung) which consists of Geonil, Yoonhak, Sungmo, Jihyuk, Kwangsoo, and Sungje.
Their debut full-length album, The Beautiful Stardust, featuring the track “Hit”, became a massive hit. This was followed by the 2008 track “Superstar” which was released before an unprecedented collaboration.
They finally made a comeback in 2009 alongside girl group T-ARA with the song “TTL (TIME TO LOVE)” which was reprised later in a remix version called “TTL Listen 2”.
Nonetheless, they tried to stay on track with a series of comeback but could not manage to keep up with the flurry of new groups in the mainstream, including, 2NE1, Girls’ Generation, SS501, SHINee, and 2PM.
Supernova made their final Korean comeback in the year 2012 with “She’s Gone”.
Beyond their venture in Korea, they strategically collaborated with T-ARA, and debuted in Japan. The Japanese song “Kimidake Wo Zutto”, and couple of singles from their maiden album Hana, gained the top spots in the music charts, effortlessly.
In fact, the group tasted utmost success in Japan and kept releasing full-length albums between 2009 to 2021 which fetched the top 10 spots much frequently. In addition, their concert tickets in Japan, sold out within five minutes. Henceforth, they finally crafted their company SV ENT and the contracts with Maroo Entertainment were not renewed. Meanwhile, Sungmo, terminated his terms with the group in 2019 post the expiration.
Their new album HEAVEN was released in 2024 featuring the track “Moonlight”.
On the individual front, Sungje made solo promotions for his projects. Meanwhile, leader Yoonhak’s musical, and the Funky Galaxy unit (Geonil, Jihyuk, and Kwangsoo), continue to stay active on solo endeavours serving as the long-standing group in Korean music industry.
