The popular series The Sandman will end with its forthcoming second season, according to showrunner Allan Heinberg. The show, which was based on Neil Gaiman’s well-known DC comic series, debuted in August 2022 and was renewed in November of the same year. Variety claims that Netflix first referred to it as a “continuation” rather than a new season.

Allan revealed that the decision to discontinue the series was taken early on, according to the outlet. “The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022 when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” he mentioned in a statement.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to Netflix for enabling them to finish the adaptation while maintaining the integrity of the original comics.

The comics’ Season of Mists plot is followed in the second season, set to premiere in 2025. A conflict breaks out amongst strong creatures who want to take the key after Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) relinquishes his position as king of Hell and gives it to Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) in this storyline.

Christie, Jenna Coleman, Patton Oswalt, and Vivienne Acheampong are among the Season 1 cast members who will reprise their characters. Barry Sloane as The Prodigal, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Esme Creed-Miles as Delirium are among the newcomers.

According to the story, The Sandman’s termination was decided upon prior to the new allegations against Neil.

Neil was initially accused on a Tortoise Media podcast last summer. Eight women made claims of pressure, assault, and abuse in a lengthy January New York Magazine article, to which Neil replied with a blog post in which he denied any wrongdoing.
