Veteran Marathi theater and film actor Vijay Kadam succumbs to cancer at 68
In the 1980s, Vijay Kadam rose to prominence in comedic roles after beginning his career as a young actor in the theater.
His actor friend Jaywant Wadkar reportedly confirmed the news of his passing to ANI. “He had been courageously fighting cancer. Initially, he recovered but his health eventually deteriorated. Around 25 days ago, he even got an acidity attack.”
He added, “He was extremely talented. From Marathi cinema to Hindi films, he explored different kinds of projects in his decades-long career. It’s impossible to find an actor like him again. His death has left a void in the industry. He’s like my family.”
Magnificent screen presence
Throughout his career, some of his most well-known roles have been in Rathchakra, Vichcha Majhi Puri Kara, Tur Tur, and Sahi Re Sahi. In addition, he made appearances in the Marathi movies Halad Rusli Kunku Hasla, Vasudev Balwant Phadke, and Irsal Karti. In addition, he appeared in a couple Bollywood movies, including Aflatoon and Ghar Ek Mandir.
On Saturday afternoon, the cremation of Vijay Kadam will take place at the Andheri-Oshiwara crematorium, survived by his son and wife.
Eknath Shinde offers tribute
In a statement on X, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde paid tribute to Kadam for his innate acting ability, comedic timing, and capacity for spontaneous repartee when performing on stage. “Marathi theater has suffered a great loss due to the death of this versatile actor who enriched Maharashtra’s entertainment world,” Shinde stated
