Andy Murray’s management team stated on Friday that the three-time Grand Slam winner will miss forthcoming clay-court tournaments in Monte Carlo and Munich.
During a match on Sunday at the Miami Open, 36-year-old Murray tore ligaments in his left ankle. He announced the following day that he would be out “for an extended period.”
A statement from his management team read, “At this stage, it is still not clear how long Andy will be out of action, and he is continuing to review options with his medical team. Obviously this is very disappointing news for Andy and he has reiterated his desire to get back on court as soon as possible.”
The former world number one injured his ankle on an approach to the net late in the third set against Tomas Machac. Murray lost the match 5-7, 7-5 and 7-6 (5).
The BMW Open in Munich starts the week after the start of the Monte Carlo Masters on April 7. Murray, who has stated that he is unlikely to play after this summer, has shown interest in participating for Britain again in the Paris Olympics.
