Erik ten Hag affirms Manchester United’s intention to retain Marcus Rashford

Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, stated on Friday that Marcus Rashford will remain at the club even if he was considered as a potential Kylian Mbappe successor at Paris Saint-Germain.

When Mbappe’s contract ends after the current campaign, he will leave PSG, and according to several rumours, the French champions have Rashford on their radar for when the transfer market opens.

Ten Hag, however, is not in the position to trade the England international, who signed a deal that would keep him contracted through 2028.

“We didn’t re-sign him last season for years with the intention to sell him, no,” the Dutchman said during a press conference ahead of United’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Liverpool on Sunday. He added, “He should be part of this project, so that is not a subject we talk about.”

With just 7 goals in all competitions this year, Rashford has struggled to repeat his career-high 30 goals form from last year.

In January, he made unwanted headlines and was subjected to what the club termed as a “disciplinary matter” after being spotted in a Belfast nightclub and missing the next game due to sickness.

Ten Hag stated earlier in the season that Rashford’s presence at birthday parties following United’s defeat to Manchester City was unacceptable. These incidents added to the rumours that the academy graduate would depart from the club.
